In addition to our outreach on campus, we had the privilege of going to Ocean Beach Elementary School for a day of cleaning. Budget cuts have cut the cleaning staff in more than half. So, when we showed up to help, the principal and the PTA representative literally cried as they thanked us. (Then they bought the giant pizzas!)
Each year we find significant local opportunities for service. We want to extend "a cup of cold water" in the name of Jesus to help where we can. Some of the staff and students attend a local church that meets in that same school. The pastor of that church told me later that the principal was still expressing her gratitude and that it continued to open doors of ministry for him at the school.
