San Francisco

After driving from Tahoe, we spent two full days in San Francisco. Our highlights there included a walking tour of Alcatraz. You see the picture from the ferry en route to "The Rock" which was the home of many notorious prisoners including Al Capone. Grant's big line now is, "When you break the rules, you go to prison. When you break the prison rules, you go to Alcatraz!" The National Park Service provides an audio walking tour through the facility which is very interesting. You see that Mackenzie and Grant spent a little time behind the bars!

We walked through Fisherman's Wharf, ate ice cream at Ghirardelli's, spent an afternoon reading at a Barnes and Noble, and ate another great meal at a window on the bay watching the sun set over the Golden Gate bridge!

In addition, we biked across the Golden Gate bridge. Mackenzie and Grant showed great endurance to make this big bike trip!

Notables from San Francisco:
* As we were biking back, we saw a man take a terrible bike crash right in front of us. He was scratched up a bit and disoriented for a minute, but seemed to be doing well when we left him.
* Our hotel gave us a complimentary upgrade so we have a suite which was very nice!
