Personally, I really enjoy listening to Paul Harvey and his "now you know the rest of the story" pieces. I also enjoy hearing "the rest of the story" stories in the lives of people to whom we minister. This story came from Caitlin, one of the STINTers in Mexico City, who was following up students that we met during our spring break week there.
"Her eyes glittered as she volunteered, "Tomorrow is my two-month anniversary of becoming a Christian, Cati. It seems like much longer ago than two months." I agreed whole-heartedly as I walked from the science department with Gianina, a freshman biology major in Latin America's largest university, the UNAM. Having just spent two hours sharing our faith with other science majors, Gianina sounds like she's walked with Jesus for years. She's now a super-committed student leader with our ministry, and loves to tell other people about her faith in Christ. Her story is worth sharing.
During spring break this year, American college students were doing spiritual surveys at Gianina's university. Gianina had little interest in more than the candy that accompanied the surveys as a completion gift. She actually lied on her survey☺ Weeks later, a group of Mexican students and staff were following up with all of the students that indicated on their surveys that they were interested knowing more about Jesus. A dynamic student named Cecilia called Gianina, thinking she'd meet a spiritual seeker on the other end of the phone, only to find an evasive response. Ceci made a follow-up appointment with Gianina, and despite Gianina's attempts to blow her off, she arrived hours late to the appointment, and began to talk frankly about her spiritual life. As Ceci shared the message of God's love with Gianina, the spiritually indifferent freshman became very interested in Jesus, ultimately deciding that she wanted to commit her life to Him.
Just months later, Gianina is committed to telling others about the same Jesus she met "by accident" on campus—a true testament to the reality of God's far-reaching love on college campuses in Mexico."
