During our week in East Asia, we saw four students indicate decisions to receive Christ. Most of our conversations occur during meal times. The lunch break, especially, from noon-1:30pm was prime time for meeting students for spiritual conversations.
Doug (STL staff) and Shawn (in country staff) met with two students for lunch. After lunch, the guys took Doug and Shawn to their room to show off their dorm and to meet their roommates.
Their dorm was a small room with three bunk beds lined up on either wall. A total of six guys lived in each room. When we entered the room, three of their roommates were in the room, either sleeping or just hanging out. One of them got down off his bunk immediately and was eager to meet us and talk. He introduced himself as George.
Shawn shared the gospel using a version in the local language. While Daniel and John were receptive and attentive, George seemed especially interested and engaged in the conversation. Shawn asked the students to read each point and then translate it back to us to make sure they understood what they had read.
Each of the students identified himself as living a self-directed life, Daniel and John were interested in being the circle on the right, but needed more time to think about it. George's sincere questions seemed to indicate a conviction of sin and a desire come to a deeper understanding of the implications of a decision to follow Christ. One of the things he wanted to know was what life would be like if he decided to make this decision.
In the course of the conversation, Shawn and Doug learned that the fourth roommate who was listening to the conversation was already a Christian. The roommate's testimony encouraged George, who decided to invite Christ into his life.
Shawn promised to get back together with both George and the roommate to do follow up and continue to reach out to Daniel and John and answer their questions.
